Something for your eye is a series of clips from Electric, and while they’re pretty much a wank they’re saved from rotting in the sticky browser history of thirteen year old boys everywhere by Craig Anderson. Ando is my new hero. His style is polished, flamboyant and seriously fun to watch – it whiffs of Machador, Lopez (check his frontside tuberides) and a touch of Cabell, all wrapped up in a spacesuit and shot into orbit.

Still your pounding heart, steady your busy hands and force upon yourself this opportunity to free your office-numbed mind. Let your bandy legs run from the four white walls and enjoy the wanderings of Electric’s Craig Anderson, Jay Davies and Ry Craike as they guide their sleds through, over, and under some of Indonesia’s multi-colored carpet rides.

Yada-yada. Parts II & III after the jump.

Byron Bay and the Gold Coast are two seemingly opposite Australian surf towns. But beneath the surface they are inextricably linked to a multi-billion dollar industry which thrives on the commodification of the surfing lifestyle. With their populations swelling, resources draining, and housing prices going through the roof, where do these two towns go from here? Where does surfing go from here?

Under the Sun is a 16mm documentary shot in Byron Bay and the Gold Coast and features incredible surfing from Dave Rastovich, Beau Young, Nat Young and a handful of others as it explores the roots of commercialism that are now so entrenched in surf culture. Be prepared for a dark and compelling narrative amidst beautiful imagery and a kick ass custom soundtrack.

The Seaglass Project Tuna, a finless Alaia-style surfboard from Global Surf Industries (GSI), has been announced the winner of a prestigious Australian International Design Award (AIDA), receiving the Design Award™ for design excellence. After a record number of entries, the 2011 Presentation Ceremony took place on Friday, 22nd of July in Melbourne. 2011 also marked the inaugural year of the AIDA under the custodianship of Good Design Australia.

Hawaiians have been riding “alaias” – traditional finless craft – for centuries. Bringing his experience to GSI is alaia enthusiast and 2009 Surfer Magazine board shaper of the year Tom Wegener. Tom first shocked the surfing community in 2005 with claims that the ancients, with their thin, finless wooden boards, were far more advanced than we ever thought possible. The “Tuna” is an extension of ancient surfing, designed with the perfect blend of flex, rail and bottom contours, and combined with modern materials to increase flotation.

Australian Jamie Mitchell has claimed his 10th consecutive Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard Championship and world title after completing the 52 km distance in a record time. After that unbelievable achievement he also announced he would retire while on top.

“I feel like the weight of the entire Hawaiian Island chain has lifted from me,” said a pumped up Mitchell at the finish. “It’s done.”

It was an emotional and relieving victory that bookended a decade of perfection for Mitchell. It also puts him on par with fellow Quiksilver teammate Kelly Slater, a 10-time world champion of surfing and one of the only human beings on the planet who can comprehend the dedication and commitment such a sporting feat demands. Slater was among the first to praise Jamie’s accomplishment today:

“Jamie has set a bar that few, if any, athletes have set in their careers,” said Slater. “Ten straight years of doing anything is impressive. To beat the world’s best paddlers time and again in treacherous, unpredictable conditions is inspiring and unbelievable.”
